Age is but a number, so they say. Well, then so be it, I dare say. Having said that, I looked into the age statistics for the PBA this first quarter of 2014. The results were not entirely surprising.
Asi Taulava (Air21 Express), oldest current PBA player, nullifies the layup of Terrence Romeo (Globalport Batang Pier), the youngest in the league.

With the total of 155 players in the PBA, the average age in the league is 30.31 y/o. The age with the most number of players is 26 y/o listed with 15 players, which means that 9.68% of players in the league are in this age group (followed by ages 32, 31, and 28, each with fourteen players). About 45.16% of players in the PBA are below the average age while 49.03% are above the average age. Only 5.8% are in the average age.
Barangay Ginebra San Miguel's average age is 29.57 y/o. The team's youngest player is James Forrester at 25 y/o while the oldest player in the team is Anthony "Jayjay" Helterbrand at 38 y/o. Not quite an old team yet. Ten of Ginebra's fourteen-men roster are 30-and-under. Barring trades, the Slaughter-Aguilar 26-and-27 Twin Towers have a long way ahead of them.
Rain or Shine Elasto Painters' average age is 28.53 y/o (youngest average in the league). The team's youngest player is Jeric Teng at 23 y/o while the oldest player in the team is Jireh Ibanes at 32 y/o, which, interestingly, is almost the same as the average age of players for the Alaska Aces. By all indications, Rain or Shine is the youngest team in the league thus far.
Petron Blaze Boosters' average age is 29.57 y/o. The team's youngest player is Samuel Joseph Marata at 23 y/o while the oldest player in the team is Chico Lanete at 35 y/o. With its age of players and talent, this team is ripe for another title contention
Talk 'n Text Tropang Texters' average age is 30.88 y/o. The team's youngest player is Robby Celiz at 26 y/o while the oldest player in the team is Ali Peek at 39 y/o.
Meralco Bolts' average age is 31.25 y/o. The team's youngest player is Antonio Jose Caram at 23 y/o while the oldest player in the team is Danny Ildefonso at 38 y/o. With 26 of PBA players in the 35-and-up group, 5 or about 19.23% are in Meralco (Allado, David, Salvacion, Ildefonso, Hugnatan), while two other players, Cortez and Omolon, are already 34. This team is bound to age fast.
San Mig Coffee Mixers' average age is 29.69 y/o. The team's youngest player is Ian Paul Sangalang at 23 y/o while the oldest player in the team is Rafi Reavis at 37 y/o.
Barako Bull Energy Cola's average age is 31.13 y/o. The team's youngest player is Jeric Marco Fortuna at 23 y/o while the oldest player in the team is Michael "Mick" Pennisi at 39 y/o. Age-wise, Alaska needs to rebuild its roster the soonest. Literally and figuratively, Alaska is milk, not wine.
